La selección canadiense ha acumulado 3 victorias consecutivas a medida que se acerca poco a poco a la Copa Mundial de Fútbol.
Canadá se enfrentó a Honduras, EE. UU. y El Salvador y los venció a los tres 2-0 para estar a tan solo un juego de asegurar un lugar en la Copa Mundial. En su primer enfrentamiento de la semana contra Honduras, Canadá se pusó a la delantera en el minuto 10 y nunca miró hacia atrás. Johnathan David anotó en el minuto 73 para cerrar el juego con un buen lanzamiento. La estrella, Alphonso Davies no jugó en estos enfrentamientos; pero estuvo viendo los juegos en vivo mientras transmitía en línea y reaccionaba a cada gol de los canadienses. La habilidad de Canadá para jugar al contraataque combinada con la velocidad de Johnathan David le permitió a al equipo el ponerse detrás de la defensa y anotar. Canadá, con una ventaja de 4 puntos, ahora puede respirar tranquila y enfocarse en su juego contra Costa Rica; ya que una victoria contra ellos permitirá que la selección califique para la Copa Mundial de Fútbol. This is how the Canadian team has performed in their last games
Canada goes 3-0 as they inch closer to the World Cup birth.
Canada took on Honduras, USA and El Salvador and beat all three of them 2-0 as they get within 1 game to clinch a spot in the World Cup.
In their first matchup of the week against Honduras, Canada went ahead in the 10th minute and never looked back.
Johnathan David scored in the 73rd minute to put the game away with a nice pitch shot. Star, Alphonso Davies did not play in the matchups, but he was watching the games live online with reactions to each goal for the Canadians.
Canada moved on to face their toughest matchup of the week as they took on the USMNT in Hamilton.
Canada played aggressively from the start as they were pressing and checking from behind whenever the USA got the ball.
Canada struck early as forward Cyle Larine scored in the 7th minute to take the 1-0 lead. He shot from the top of the box beat goalie, Matt Turner on the left side of the goal.
Larine becomes Canada’s leading all-time scorer with his 23rd international goal.
From there, the USMNT was playing catch-up and couldn’t quite capitalize with their sluggish offence.
Even though the US was able to dominate the possession, they spent most of the matchup failing to show for the massive difference in possession.
Canada played El Salvador in San Salvador on Wednesday night in the final game of the round.
This was a story of the old veteran and the young star to give Canada an undefeated round as Captain Atiba Hutchinson and David both scored to ensure the victory.
Hutchinson who is close to his 39th birthday, headed the ball from the right side to beat El Salvador goalkeeper, Kévin Carabantes to take the lead.
A common theme for this round is David scoring the second goal once again to put the nail in the coffin for the smallest country in Central America.
Canada Coach John Herdman inspired all his players as he said there was “a whole country behind you now” before the players took the pitch.
“There’s a real confidence that we’re going to find a way and get the job done,” Herdman said after the game.
The pressure Canada was putting on El Salvador was just too much as the Salvadorans did not put a shot on goal until stoppage time.
Throughout these past 3 games, Milan Borjan posted a clean sheet in all three of those games. Stopping 8 shots in total en route to going undefeated.
Canada’s ability to pressure and force the defence to make mistakes was a major reason why they were successful in the tournament.
It showed in the game against the USMNT, as the United States was not able to get it going offensively until late in the second half. They continued this momentum against El Salvador, as they just couldn’t muster much offence until the dire seconds.
Canada rarely felt pressured in these 3 games and did not need to kick the ball into high gear as they look towards the final round of qualification.
Canada’s ability to play the counter-attack combined with Johnathan David’s speed allowed Canada to get behind the defence and score.
Canada with a 4-point lead now sits with a little bit of breathing room atop the table. Now Canada looks towards Costa Rica, as a win against them gets them qualified into the World Cup.
The next round is starting for Canada on March 24th in Costa Rica.
